Skills Shortages and Rising Salaries

Specialist Recruiters For The Construction & Engineering Sectors
There has been a fair amount of uncertainty when it comes to the employment scene, with many staff now working from home. There is also a definite skills shortage, causing difficulty for employers and in some cases, salary increases. Competition within the jobs market is expected to increase in the next few years, and employers are bracing themselves. They are wondering how to stand out in a competitive market, and what plans to put in place to ensure success.
The highest paying jobs are in technology, which is only to be expected as the pandemic has forced many to go digital. Marketing and engineering roles are also in the top ten of highest paid jobs. The ten roles receiving the largest pay increases are:-
- Security Architect
- Senior Marketing Executive
- Penetration Tester
- Cyber Security Engineer
- Cyber Security Manager
- Data Architect
- Production Shift Manager
- Cryptographer
- Cyber Security Analyst
- Project Controls Manager
The skills demand is set to continue, leaving two thirds of all employers intending to raise salaries in the coming year. These trends are prompting many people to consider a change of career. They are looking at training for and taking on roles within science and construction, engineering, technology, marketing and manufacture. While technical skills are important, employers are also looking for those with ‘soft skills’. These include flexibility, communication, problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changes and cooperate with others. All transferable and very helpful within the jobs market.
Money is not the only focus for people though, as aspects such as a better work-life balance are frequent goals. Jobs that are rewarding, worthwhile and community minded can motivate many. All of this means that the landscape is evolving and shifting, forcing many to make smart long term choices.
